Steel Pools: Initial Cost
At Kevin Signature Pools, we offer four distinct types of steel wall pool packages. They are self-installation, assisted installation, basic installation, and turn-key installation. Let’s take a look at each to learn more.
Steel Wall Self-Installations
A self-installation package would include the pool kit, 20g Liner and delivery of the kit to your home, and then the client takes it from there.
The obvious advantage of installing your own steel wall pool is the cost savings. On average most people will save between $6,000 and $10,000 depending on the scope of the project and who does the majority of the work.
The price of the pool kit is determined by two things: the size of the pool and the cost to deliver the pool to your home. If you are considering a self-installation, be sure to ask if the price you are quoted includes delivery. If it does not, be sure to get a delivery quote in writing.
Regarding the kit price, still wall pools are basically classified into 2 groups: rectangle and free from. Rectangle pools common sizes are 12 x 24, 16 x 32, and 20 x 40. In most cases you can expect a small 12 x 24 with delivery to cost $9k-$11k, 16 x 32 $11k-$13k, and 20 x 40 $13k-$15k. Add around $2000 to $4000 more for free from designs.
There are resources available to teach homeowners how to install their own pool kit, but the vast majority of pool owners prefer to leave the installation of the pool to authorized dealers.
An assisted installation differs from a self-installation in that it includes the pump and filter system, plumbing, and labor to install the pool walls, Pool liner, pour concrete footer and the pool bottom, do all the plumbing, and set equipment. These are the most critical (and unfamiliar) phases of the installation. All other labor, materials, and equipment are provided by the customer.
This is a great option for those who have means to excavate their own hole, pay for the concrete and handle the patio work, and even electric, but would rather not deal with the head ache of installing the pool walls and bottom, installing the liner, setting the pump and filter, and doing all the plumbing.
Assisted Installations typically cost around $6k-$10k more than a self-installation.
A standard steel wall pool package will typically include the following:
The pool kit with 20g liner, delivery to the site, the pump and filter system, installation, 3 loads of gravel for installation, water to fill the pool, maintenance and cleaning equipment, building permit, and 4ft band of concrete around the pool.
Standard packages can vary greatly from company to company so be sure to ask specifically what is included. It’s surprising how often permits, water, delivery fees, etc. are not included in a company’s base package price. It’s also important to consider other details like warranties, the type of pool equipment provided, and the steel wall manufacturer.
Many home owners choose to handle the balance of the project themselves including the completion of the patio, electrical work, and the pool fence to save money. On average most folks can save several thousand dollars doing this.
As a general rule, to find the average price of a steel wall pool package of this type, take the length of the pool and add two to six thousand dollars. For example, a 32′ steel wall pool package might cost $34,000. Most people will spend another $5k-$15k in pool accessories, electrical work, patio, and fencing.
The overwhelming advantage of a turn-key installation is convenience. There is no need for the customer to oversee or manage any aspect of the project. Many clients find it worth the investment to let someone else handle hiring contractors, getting bids, and scheduling and overseeing their work; not to mention the added piece of mind knowing that there is only one company responsible for the project.
On average most turn-key steel wall pool projects cost $35,000-$85,000 but projects that require extensive retaining walls, water features, or other elaborate elements can cost much more. For a more in-depth explanation of steel wall pool pricing call 615-238-4144.
